James McClean named Stoke City Player of the Year

Republic of Ireland international James McClean has been crowned Stoke City's Player of the Year for the 2019/20 season.

With 49% of the vote he finished ahead of midfielders Sam Clucas and Nick Powell to win the award which went to England international goalkeeper Jack Butland last season.

The Republic of Ireland International scored seven goals and assisted a further seven in 36 league matches for the Potters last season as the side finished 15th in the English Championship.

“I just want to say firstly how proud I am to pick up the club’s Player of the Year award,” McClean said, speaking to the club’s website.

“I would like to thank the fans for their support throughout the whole season and their votes. I will work extremely hard to try to emulate and better myself next season.”

The 31 year old joined the club from West Bromwich Albion in 2018 and has also played for Sunderland and Wigan Athletic during his time in England.
