Gavin Peers signs for Warrenpoint Town

Warrenpoint Town have completed the signing of defender Gavin Peers from Irish Cup winners Glentoran.

The centre-back becomes the clubs fourth summer signing and will tighten the defence that conceded the most goals in the Danske Bank Premiership last season.

Peers from Dublin was a key figure for Sligo Rovers who he captained to a League Championship, three FAI Cups, a League of Ireland Cup and a Setanta Cup win.

The defender also spent time with St Patrick's Athletic and Derry City before his move to the Oval.

He played 26 times for Mick McDermott's side in the league last season scoring once and assisting three times.

He has also been selected for the Republic of Ireland at U23 level and also for the League of Ireland representative team.

Point boss Barry Gray said "Gavin brings much need experience, and leadership not to mention outstanding ability.”

“I have been on record last season about how disappointing it’s been to see us concede so many goals."

“We really believe Gavin can help us substantially reduce this tally and look forward to working with him closely in the months ahead."

“This is exciting times at Milltown as we move forward and to attract this calibre of player is fantastic to see for everyone at Warrenpoint."
