'We lacked cohesion and a little bit of quality at times' - Keith Long as Bohs secure away win over Cork

Bohemians manager Keith Long praised his side for fighting through the pre-season rust and digging in to claim all three points over Cork City on Sunday afternoon.

Andre Wright’s first half strike was the difference between the two teams at Turner’s Cross, in what was a near complete performance by the Gypsies.

“It was a great win for us and a great start for us,” Keith Long said. “We had to concentrate. It wasn’t a compete performance by any extent of the imagination. We lacked cohesion and a little bit of quality at times.

“The pitch didn’t enable us to play as well as well as we would like. But, saying that, there is a little bit of rust in us because we haven’t played competitively in so long.”

Sunday’s win over Cork City was only the third time in eleven years that Bohemians have beaten the Rebel Army at Turner’s Cross.

“The last time we won down here was in 2017 when Cork were unbeaten. We came here and won well that night.

“It’s been a couple of years since and we lost and drew down here last season. This is a big three points from us.

“It was a different experience coming down here this time. There is always a huge home vocal support which was absent today and that was a little surreal. Regardless of that we are happy with the game and three points.”

The result puts Bohemians one point behind Dundalk who are in second place with the two sides due to meet next weekend at Dalymount Park.

“We played Dundalk a couple of weeks ago in a warm-up game. They are a quality side and I’d say they are disappointed with their result against St. Pats on Friday night.

“But, it doesn’t matter when you face Dundalk. You have to be at your top game.

“They have a hugely talented squad and I would say that they are feeling the pressure with the gap between them and Shamrock Rovers. We will try and concentrate on ourselves.

“They have an extra two days recovery on us so we have to make sure that we are smart and recover well.”
