Dundalk confirm return of forward David McMillan as Georgie Kelly joins Pats on loan

Premier Division league title holders Dundalk have unveiled the signing of forward David McMillan.

The 31-year-old returns to Oriel Park having been at the club before from 2014 to 2017 during a four-year stint.

He returns to Oriel after spending two-and-a-half years in Scotland where he had spells at St Johnstone, Hamilton Academical and Falkirk.

Prior to that, McMillan won three Premier Division titles, an FAI Cup and two EA Sports Cup medals with Dundalk.

While with the Lilywhites, he scored 74 goals in 125 appearances for the club with seven of them coming in the UEFA Champions League, a record for a League of Ireland player.

“I had such a successful time here and even when I left, I followed the club every step of the way,” he told dundalkfc.com.

“My parents have been regulars here since I’ve been gone so I have strong ties with the club and I’m just delighted to be back.

“There have been massive improvements at the club. There’s a new gym, new changing rooms, a video analysis room and a canteen. The current owners came in just after I left, and money has been well spent.”

He is also hoping to be involved in Friday night’s televised clash with St Patrick’s Athletic at Oriel Park.

“I’m fit and I feel good,” he said. “I tried to keep myself going with cycling and running during the lockdown so it’s just a matter of getting back in and playing football now.

“We have a massive squad and that should stand us in good stead going forward,” he added. “Everybody has to buy into this short period of time and give it our all and, hopefully, we will be successful on a couple of fronts.”

News of McMillans’ arrival at the club comes just days after it was confirmed that Georgie Kelly has joined up with St Patrick’s Athletic on loan for the rest of the season.
