Daniel Magill extends Carrick Rangers contract but moves on loan to Ards for 2020-2021

Daniel Magill has extended his contract with Carrick Rangers for another three years, before heading out to Ards on loan for the 2020-21 season. Magill and Carrick Rangers will be hoping the move to Ards will benefit his longer term future with Carrick.

This will be Magill’s first move away from Carrick Rangers since graduating from the clubs’ academy. The 23 year old defender signed for the first team in 2018, however a cruciate injury in a pre-season friendly saw him ruled out for the entire season apart from one substitute appearance in the final game of the season against Portadown. Over the course of the 2019-20 season he managed ten appearances for the Amber Army before games were halted in early March.

Magill moves to a club who have aspirations of returning to the top flight after their relegation at the end of the 2018-19 campaign. The North Down side finished 4th in last seasons’ curtailed NIFL Championship.

Carrick are hoping that the move will allow Magill to gain more experience at first team level before returning to the Carrickfergus club, with manager Niall Currie noting “it's important that he loads himself up with games."

Commenting on the move Magill said “It's been a frustrating couple of years on a personal level after the long layoff I've had with my knee so a loan deal is probably what I need right now.

“I'm looking forward to getting back to my sharpest over the next few months with Ards, with the plan of coming back and pushing on again with the great group of lads we have here at Carrick”.
