Watch: Sam Verdon opens scoring for Longford in Dundalk friendly as the Lilywhites fight back to earn win
First Division Longford Town were defeated 2-1 away to Dundalk at Oriel Park this evening, despite the best efforts of midfielder Sam Verdon.
Verdon opened the scoring for Daire Doyle’s charges with a fierce strike that nestled into the back of Gary Rogers’ net.
The former St Patrick’s Athletic star was found via the ever-industrious work of Karl Chambers before striking home into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.

However, De Town were unable to hold out and were eventually pegged back just before the break by Patrick Hoban.
Michael Duffy then scored in the second half to secure the win for Vinny Perth’s side.
Elsewhere, Sligo Rovers fell to a surprising home defeat against First Division Athlone Town by two goals to one.
Athlone’s win comes just a day after they were defeated 4-2 by Dundalk at Oriel Park.
