St Patrick’s Athletic under-17s defender Aaron O’Reilly has signed a scholarship deal with current Premier League side Aston Villa.
O’Reilly links up with the Villains academy system after impressing with the Saints under-15 side last season.
The Dubliner has also played for St Francis, Home Farm and Crumlin United as a schoolboy before joining the Saints
“I’m delighted to get the deal over the line now and I just want to get back on the pitch,” the 16-year-old told St Patrick’s Athletic’s media team.
“It’s been hectic, there’s been Zoom calls after Zoom calls trying to sort things out. I’ve met a lot of people over (Zoom) and I was only back playing with Pat’s under-17s two weeks.
“Now that the airports are back open we were able to get the deal done. I’m delighted. I’ve known about it for a while now so to sign the contract now is brilliant.”
He continued: “I just want to get back playing football now and getting on the pitch. I’m going to work hard and see how far it gets me.
“I just want to get on the pitch now and work hard and get back playing matches. And hopefully I can achieve the ultimate goal of becoming a professional footballer.”
