Irish under-17 international Calum Kavanagh signs first pro deal with Middlesbrough

Republic of Ireland under-17 international Calum Kavanagh has signed his first professional contract with Middlesbrough.

The son of former Ireland international Graham Kavanagh was a regular feature in the club’s under-18 side last season.

While with the under-18s, he scored six goals, including a run of five in six games before the season was curtailed in March.

As an Irish underage international, the 16-year-old has made four appearances for the Boys in Green, scoring once.

He follows in the footsteps of his father Graham who played for Middlesbrough between 1991 and 1996.

Graham made 47 appearances for the club after joining from Home Farm. After leaving Middlesbrough, he went on to make over 600 appearances with Stoke City, Cardiff City, Wigan Athletic, Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday and Carlisle United.
