Harry Nevin signs for Preston after agreement reached with Cork City

Cork City FC have confirmed that the club has reached an agreement for academy player Harry Nevin to join Preston North End.

The Ireland Under 16 international joined City’s Under 15 side from Douglas Hall, and featured at Under 17 level last season, before making the step-up to the Under 17s on a full-time basis this season.

A deal between City and Preston for the defender had been reportedly discussed last February when the two clubs were in talks over cancelling the sell-on clauses for former City players Alan Browne and Seani Maguire.

Colin Healy, City’s Head of Academy, said: “Harry has done very well in the time he has been with our academy. There has been a long-standing interest in him from Preston and he has been over to them a few times. With the way he has performed over the last eighteen months or so, both for us and at international level, that interest has only intensified. We wish Harry the very best of luck for the future.”

A number of Cork players have made the move to Deepdale in recent seasons. Graham Cummins was the first in the winter of 2011 and he was followed up by Alan Browne and schoolboy Adam O’Reilly in recent seasons. Preston North End also have strong links with local club Ringmahon Rangers, who produced Browne and O’Reilly.
