Defender Paul Cleary returns to St Patrick's Athletic following Wexford loan

First Division Wexford have confirmed the departure of St Patrick’s Athletic loanee Paul Cleary as League of Ireland football looks set for a July 31st return.

Cleary – a Leinster Senior Cup winner with St Pats – joined the Slaneysiders on loan prior to the start of the 2020 season.

Despite seeing his stint at Ferrycarrig Park cut short by the Covid-19 shutdown, the defender impressed with Brian O’Sullivan’s side.

While with the club, he started in all 4 competitive matches in 2020 for Wexford, keeping one clean sheet against Galway United.

Wexford boss Brian O'Sullivan told his club’s media team: “Paul is a great character to have in the dressing room.  From day one he fitted in with the Wexford squad.

“He is a fantastic player, proper defender but more importantly he is a great guy to have in the club.

“Pats are really lucky to be bringing through these kinds of players in their youth system. I think he is going to have a great career in the League of Ireland. Hopefully it's with Pats as I know he loves the club.

“I'd like to thank Stephen O'Donnell for loaning him to Wexford and the door is always open for a return.”
