Rob Elliot to depart Newcastle United

Newcastle United have announced that goalkeeper Rob Elliot will depart the club when his current contract with the club expires at the end of the month.

The 34-year-old Irish international signed for the Magpies in 2011 from Charlton Athletic.

In his nine-year spell with the club, he made 68 appearances, his last coming in December 2017.

Elliott was named as the club’s player of the season in 2015/16 and was part of the side that won the Championship in the 2016/17 season.

Midfielder Jack Colback and defender Jamie Sterry will both also leave the club at the end of the month alongside Luke Charman, Víctor Fernández, Liam Gibson and Nathan Harker.

"Many of the players leaving us have been with the club for a long time and, both personally and on behalf of the club, I'd like to thank them.

"I'm sure supporters will join me in appreciating their efforts over the years and we wish them the very best with the next steps in their careers," manager Steve Bruce said.
