Darron Gibson released by League Two Salford City

League Two side Salford City have confirmed that they have released midfielder Darron Gibson.

The 32-year-old began his career at Manchester United as a 17-year old and went on to make 60 first-team appearances with the club and the highlight being a goal in the 2010/11 Champions League Semi-Final win against Schalke.

The Derry native has also lined out for Everton, Sunderland and most recently Wigan prior to joining Salford.

Gibson departs the club who have also confirmed that former Dundalk star Richie Towell has been retained for the upcoming 2020/21 campaign.

He leaves Moor Lane having only played four times for the League Two side, as the 27-time Irish international failed to really make his mark at the club.
