Shelbourne launch Patreon scheme as they confirm they will honour all player contracts

Shelbourne have confirmed they will continue to honour players’ contracts amid the uncertainty brought on by the spread of coronavirus.

The club have paid all staff to date and will strive to continue to do so during what it projected to be a three-month suspension, with the league tentatively due to resume on June 19^th.

Shels were promoted as First Division champions at the end of 2019 and would have imagined the financial challenges would be a little more straightforward.

However, like Dublin rivals Bohemians and champions Dundalk, the Reds have confirmed they will aim to ensure all contracts for players and staff will be paid in full and on time.

“Our aim and intention is to honour all contracts and staff,” CEO David O’Connor told the club’s media team.

“We’re still awaiting full confirmation from the government support structures that hopefully will be available to us to utilise, and until that’s made 100% clear, we’ll just have to treat it on a day-to-day basis.”

With no matchday income in the interim, the club have launched a new patreon subscription service for fans with access to an exclusive podcast and archived video material.

The podcast will be presented by Eir Sport broadcaster Shane Dawson with former 98FM sports broadcaster Darren Cleary interviewing players, staff and ex-players on a weekly basis.

The podcast-only service will be available to fans for just €5 per month, while full access has been priced at €15.
