FORAS announce membership freeze ahead of AGM

FORAS, the supporters trust which owns and runs Cork City Football Club, have introduced freeze on new membership for the next thirty days.

It is understood that this is in relation to the potential takeover of the club from Grovemore Limited, who are currently in talks with the board of management of FORAS for buying Cork City from the trust.

For this sale and take over to be agreed, it must be voted upon by the 649 members of the supporters trust.

While no date for a vote has been arranged, the club will have their Annual General Meeting, on the 22nd of March, with the potential takeover expected to dominate the proceedings.

The members freeze will be in place from the 3rd of March until the 2nd of April, with an option to extend this available to the board.

It has also emerged that Grovemore Limited – who own Preston North End in the Skybet Championship – is also interested in buying Turners Cross Stadium from the Munster Football Association.

However, The Echo has reported that any attempts of buying the famous venue are set to fail, with all twenty members from the 13 leagues across Munster set to vote against the sale, should it be put to a vote.
