Athlone unveil landmark signing of Joel Coustrain as former Hoop Harry Cornally joins

Athlone Town have announced the signing of former Republic of Ireland underage international Joel Coustrain.

The Limerick native began his career with Sheffield United’s academy where he spent four years, departing Bramall Lane in 2016.

Coustrain moved to Scottish club Raith Rovers when his contract with the Blades expired.

He made six appearances for the club during the 2016/2017 season, but he left the club before the end of the season to return to Ireland.

The 24 year old joined Shamrock Rovers for the 2018 season and spent the second half of the 2019 season on loan at Cork City where he played in the side’s Europa League games.

Also joining Adrian Carberry’s side is another former Shamrock Rovers player, Harry Cornally.

The midfielder played for Rovers Under 17 and Under 19 sides and made his senior debut for the club in the Leinster Senior Cup against Thomastown United in 2017.

He was released by Rovers at the end of the 2018 season and a long term injury has limited his involvement in football.
