Goalkeeper Jack Lydon joins Wexford

Wexford have announced the signing of Jack Lydon ahead of the League of Ireland First Division season.

The goalkeeper began his career with Bray Wanderers and played for the Seagulls Under 17 side during the 2016 season.

Lydon departed for Athlone Town in 2017 and managed to make his senior debut during Athlone’s last game of the season that season against UCD.

He spent the 2019 season with Shelbourne’s Under 19 side.

"It's a chance for me to prove myself at the highest level so I hope I can kick on here and push for a place,” the 19 year old said, speaking to the club’s website.

“I've been training with the team since the very first session in Arklow last month and played a part in all the pre-season games we've had so far and I've really enjoyed it.

“Colly (Colin Gregan, Wexford goalkeeping coach) has been doing some great sessions with us and I can already feel myself getting much sharper and better.

“There's a very good bond between all the goalkeepers, the standard is very high and we're all pushing each other to make sure we're ready for when the season finally kicks off in a few weeks’ time."
