Longford Town sign Cliftonville defender Joe Gorman

First Division Longford Town have unveiled the signing of Cliftonville defender Joe Gorman following a successful trial period with the club.

Gorman featured in the Red and Black’s two-goal defeat against Bohemians on Tuesday evening as a trialist, and he has since signed his name on the dotted line with Daire Doyle’s charges.

The 25-year-old has played in the League of Ireland previously with both Drogheda United and Bray Wanderers.

The defender was recently made available for transfer by Cliftonville, and Longford were quickest to snatch the signature of the former Inverness Caledonian Thistle star.

Gorman, 25, joined the Reds in January 2019 from Clyde in the Scottish fourth tier – before making 27 appearances for the club over a one-year period.

Prior to his move to Solitude, Gorman played with Clyde in Scotland’s League Two, Gorman has enjoyed previous spells in Scotland with Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Airdrie before making the move to Solitude.

A statement from Cliftonville read at the time; “Cliftonville Football Club can confirm that, following discussions with Manager Paddy McLaughlin, it has been agreed that Joe Gorman is available for free transfer.

“The 25-year-old defender joined the Reds in December 2018 and has made 36 appearances since his debut in the Irish Cup Fifth Round tie with Dungannon Swifts on January 5.”

Gorman’s most recent appearance for Cliftonville came in the December 26th win away to Belfast rivals Crusaders at Seaview.
