Kristian Crawford joins Wexford after Longford stint

Wexford FC have announced the signing of Kristian Crawford ahead of their League of Ireland First Division campaign.

Crawford had been training with the club and made an appearance for Wexford as a second half substitute during their friendly against Waterford last week.

The 19 year old began his career with Longford Town, signing for the club from Enfield Celtic last year to play for their Under 19 side.

He made one first team appearance for De Town during their Leinster Senior Cup Fourth Round tie against North End United last August which they lost 5-1.

“I was in with the first team at Longford and was training with them before Christmas and again for two weeks after Christmas,” the defender said, speaking to the club’s website.

“I spoke to Daire (Doyle, Longford Town manager) and he said it was going to be hard for me to get game time there this season and I would benefit more if I could get minutes.

“I played with Patrick O'Sullivan at Longford last year, he'd be a good friend of mine and I know Karl Fitzsimons as well so when Brian rang to see if I wanted to come down to trial with Wexford I jumped at the chance.

“I trained with the squad for the first time last week and enjoyed it and then I played in the Waterford game on Saturday, it was a tough game but it was good to get some minutes on the pitch.

“Everything's gone well so far and it's been easy settling in. There's a great bunch of lads here and it helps knowing a few of them already so I was delighted to get the opportunity to sign.”

Brian O’Sullivan’s side continue their preparations for the new season when they take on St Patrick’s Athletic at TU Dublin in Blanchardstown on Sunday (kick off 2pm).
