Galway sign former Student Molloy as Mulryan returns for 2020

Galway United have continued their impressive off-season transfer business with the signing of 2018 First Division league winner Timmy Molloy.

News of Molloy’s signing for the Tribesmen has been followed by the news that young goalkeeper Cian Mulryan has also re-signed for the upcoming campaign.

24-year-old Galwegian Molloy spent the previous few years at UCD, before he departed the club in May to go travelling over the Summer.

On his return to Ireland, the midfielder returned to Galway to play for junior side Salthill Devon – and he has since signed up with Alan Murphy’s Tribesmen.

“Timmy is a past First Division winner and has a large chunk of games played in both the Premier and First Division,” Murphy told his club’s media team.

“He's a really experienced player that will bolster our team and squad. It's brilliant that we can attract such local talent to the club and we're delighted to be able to add a player to the huge amount of local players that we already have secured for next season.

“Timmy has a huge appetite for his return to League of Ireland football and he wants to be successful with Galway United. He'll be a big leader for our players, even though he's still quite young.”

Also committing to the cause for 2020 is goalkeeper Cian Mulryan – a 19-year-old who made his first-team debut on the final day of the 2019 league season away to Athlone Town.

“Cian returns to the club after making his senior debut last season against Athlone Town," the Galway boss added.

“Cian is really willing to learn and has got a taste of first team action now. He will really benefit from working with the two experienced goalkeepers we have in Kevin Horgan and Micheal Schlingermann and we feel he's going to learn a lot from them next season.

“He's aware that this is a huge learning curve in his development as a senior player, he has a good attitude and is still developing in terms of his physical attributes.

“There will no pressure put on Cian and we won't rush his development, so hopefully he'll reap the benefits of this.

“Cian is a graduate from the very good academy structure we have at the club. He's shown throughout the years that he's very dedicated and an excellent professional, that wants to do well.”
