Conor Crowley makes Wexford move after brief Cabinteely stint

First Division Wexford have confirmed the acquisition of former UCD and Cabinteely midfielder Conor Crowley.

Crowley is the fourth former UCD player to join the Slaneysiders in recent weeks – following the likes of Cian Kavanagh, Dan Tobin and Tom Murphy.

While at Belfield, Crowley struggled to make an imprint on Collie O’Neill’s side as he played second fiddle in the middle of the park to the trio of Gary O’Neill, Greg Sloggett and Timmy Molloy.

Perhaps unfortunate at times to be behind a number of players in the pecking order at the UCD Bowl, the 21-year-old joined Cabinteely in the summer.

He found game-time just as limited at Stradbrook, making just the one appearance for the Green and White’s in the Leinster Senior Cup.

“I've always had a good welcome at Ferrycarrig Park when I played there, it's a very friendly club and I think Wexford's style of play will suit me better,” Crowley told his club’s media team.

“When Brian rang me and told me how he wants the club to progress, not just this year but his plans for the club for the next few seasons, I was very keen to sign straight away.

“I'm a technical kind of player and he emphasised that he wants to try get the ball down as much as possible and be creative and pass it around and that's what I like to do.

“There was talk of a few different clubs who were interested in me but once Brian said I had a good chance of playing if I was committed and worked hard enough it was an easy decision to make.”
