Andy Myler appointed as new UCD boss

First Division UCD have appointed former Shamrock Rovers and Drogheda United forward Andy Myler as their new first team manager.

Myler’s appointment brings an end to the reign of former manager Maciej Tarnogrodzki – who was installed as UCD boss in August following the departure of Collie O’Neill.

The 44-year-old has played a role on the UCD backroom team in the Colleges and Universities League sides recently.

His last post in League of Ireland football was with Shamrock Rovers, where he was on Michael O’Neill’s management team.

Assistant boss Ian Ryan will also remain at the club in the same role, as the Students look to rebuild their squad ahead of the 2020 campaign.

“For the club it's a great appointment,” UCD Director of Football Diarmuid McNally said.

“Andy has been working with us in the background over the last few years, knows exactly how we operate, and of course his success as both a player and on the management side speaks for itself.

“He had great success working with Michael O'Neill at Shamrock Rovers when they made the Europa League group stages, and I'm confident he will be a huge success here.”

McNally added; “I'm also delighted that Ian Ryan has agreed to stay on as our assistant manager for next season.

“He knows the club inside out, has played a huge role in our recent success, and will play a vital role as we continue our rebuilding and look to develop our next squad of exciting young players.”
