Dan Casey to depart Cork City

Premier Division Cork City have confirmed that central defender Dan Casey is to depart the club after a one-year spell at Turners Cross.

Casey joined the Leesiders from Keith Long’s Bohemians, where he established himself as a key member of the Gypsies starting XI in 2018.

While at Dalymount Park, the Dubliner made 40 appearances for the Phibsborough outfit having returned home from the UK.

While in the UK, Casey plied his trade at Sunderland – where he featured on eight occasions for the clubs under 23 side at the Stadium of Light.

While at Turners Cross in 2019, the 22-year-old made 29 appearances for City – scoring three goals during his stint on Leeside.

His first goal came in the two-nil win over Bohemians in March, scoring a header. He then scored in defeats at home to both Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers.

And his final appearance for Cork was in the final league game of the season away to Shamrock Rovers, where Neale Fenn’s side fell to a dismal three-nil defeat at Tallaght Stadium.

“I’ve spoken to Dan and he has decided to move back to Dublin,” Fenn told Cork City’s media team.

“On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to thank him for his time here and wish him the best of luck for the future.”
