Hugh Douglas confirms Bray departure after five year spell at the Carlisle Grounds

Bray Wanderers defender Hugh Douglas has confirmed that he is to depart the Seagulls after a five-year long stint at the club.

Douglas joined the Carlisle Grounds outfit ahead of the 2015 campaign after suffering relegation with UCD in 2014.

In his first year at the Quinsborough Road venue – the defender made 29 league appearances for Bray who finished the 2015 season in 8th position.

A year later, the former UCD star backed up his impressive 2015 with an equally impactful season – making 30 league appearances.

Douglas continued to impress at the Seagulls, where he re-signed for the club ahead of the 2017 league campaign.

The 6ft 1 defensive rock however suffered relegation in the 2018 campaign – as a series of off-the-field controversies eventually took its toll on the Seagulls.

After battling back from a long-term injury – Douglas was installed as club captain for the 2019 season by manager Gary Cronin.

In the 2019 First Division campaign – the 26-year-old made 18 appearances for the Co. Wicklow side.

He also scored four league goals. Two of which were against Longford Town in a dramatic 3-2 win over the Midlander’s in June.

The former UCD defender was also named as the club’s 2019 Player of the Year.
