Senior debut for Lee O'Connor with Jack Byrne in line to make first start in New Zealand friendly

Republic of Ireland boss Mick McCarthy has named his starting XI for Thursday evening’s friendly at home to New Zealand.

The former Ipswich Town boss has awarded debuts to Lee O’Connor and Troy Parrott, after the duo impressed in recent weeks.

Shamrock Rovers’ Jack Byrne will also make his first start for the Boys in Green along with Kieran O’Hara, who is on loan at Burton Albion from Manchester United.

Burnley’s Robbie Brady will captain the side against the All Whites, as he looks to earn a place in Monday’s starting XI versus Denmark.

Ciaran Clark and Kevin Long are expected to partner each other in central defence, as Derrick Williams is likely to occupy the left-back berth.

Josh Cullen and Alan Browne will play alongside the Hoops midfield sensation Byrne in the middle of the park.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Parrott is also expected to link up with former Cork City striker Seanie Maguire in the forward positions.

Team in full: Kieran O’Hara; Lee O’Connor, Ciaran Clark, Kevin Long, Derrick Williams; Josh Cullen, Alan Browne, Jack Byrne, Robbie Brady; Troy Parrott, Sean Maguire.
