Rob Manley departs Cabinteely to join Longford Town

First Division Longford Town have unveiled the signing of forward Rob Manley.

Manley links up with his brother, Joe, at City Calling Stadium who has also signed up for the 2020 campaign.

In his first full year of regular senior League of Ireland football, Manley scored 18 goals in all competitions.

His 17 league goals propelled Cabinteely to an unprecedented First Division playoff, which was the first time the Green and White’s had ever reached the playoffs in their brief League of Ireland history.

Manley’s contributions were telling, scoring the spot-kick that saw Longford crash out of the playoffs in a dramatic and pulsating clash in the Midlands.

In the clubs three league outings against each other, the former Drogheda United forward scored twice against the Midlander’s, both at Stradbrook.

To round off a superb year for the 22-year-old, he was also crowned as the PFAI’s First Division Player of the Year.

Speaking to Longford’s media team, Manley said; “I signed for Longford because I believe it’s one of the best places to play football, I was impressed with Longford last season.

“Daire is assembling a top class squad and there’s no limit as to what Longford can achieve.”

Manley joins former Shelbourne forward James English in joining Longford ahead of the 2020 campaign, with Aodh Dervin and Lee Steacy also committing to the cause.
