Dobbs departs Longford to join promoted Shelbourne

Former Shamrock Rovers forward Aaron Dobbs has made the move to join First Division league winners Shelbourne from Longford Town.

Dobbs scored on five occasions for the Red and Black this term, where the 20-year-old impressed during the latter half of the 2019 campaign at City Calling Stadium.

Prior to making his move to Longford, Dobbs played for his hometown club, Wexford FC, where he was on loan from parent club Shamrock Rovers.

While at the Hoops, the Wexford native made his Premier Division aged just 16 before scoring twice for Rovers in 13 senior appearances.

The Civil Engineering student at TU Dublin joins the Reds on a two-year deal, joining the likes of Jack Brady in joining the club in recent days.

“Aaron has caught my eye over the last few years, he holds the ball up well, has pace and is a really exciting talent,” Shels boss Ian Morris told shelbournefc.ie

“It’s great to get him on a two-year contract as he fits the profile of what we’re doing here,” he added.

Dobbs added that he is “hoping for a big year” with his move to Tolka Park.

“I’m absolutely delighted to join such a big club, steeped in history and back where it belongs in the Premier,” he said.

The former Wexford minor GAA star commits to the Shels 2020 cause along with Dayle Rooney and Sean Quinn, who have both re-signed for the Drumcondra outfit in recently.
