Derry City defender Ally Gilchrist signs contract extension with the Candystripes

Derry City defender Ally Gilchrist has signed a new deal with the Candystripes that will see him remain at the Ryan McBride Brandywell until at least the end of the 2020 season.

The Scot has been a constant in Declan Devine’s defensive line since making the move from Shamrock Rovers in the off-season.

24-year-old Gilchrist has made 21 appearances in the league so far this season, helping his side to keep seven clean sheets as they challenge for a Europa League spot.

The Edinburgh native came through the ranks with St Johnstone and had loan spells with Elgin City and Peterhead before joining the Hoops ahead of the 2018 season.

Derry City face Dundalk on Saturday night as they look to retain the EA Sports Cup at the Ryan McBride Brandywell (live on Eir Sport 1, 8pm kick-off).
