Gary Cronin hoping for a favour as the Seagulls playoff hopes hang on a thread

Bray Wanderers boss Gary Cronin admits that he is hoping for a favour from Cobh Ramblers this evening after the Seagulls were unable to leave Tolka Park with all three points on Friday night.  

The Co. Wicklow side were perhaps unfortunate to be denied a win over their title-chasing opposition on a night where defences reigned supreme in the capital.

“I might sound a little bit biased, but I think on general play I thought we might have nicked it,” Cronin told extratime.ie.

“We were the team going for it a little bit more and you were just hoping something might have fallen for us. There was a lot of action at both ends, end to end stuff at times but I have to give credit to both defences.

“Two clean sheets when the game is the way it is, it’s a credit to the keepers and back fours. But look, we’re disappointed that we didn’t win.

“Draws are not great for us at the moment but we’re still in with a bit of hope and hopefully Cobh can turn over Cabinteely (this evening).

“This result in the grand scheme of things is not the worst result. It’s a fine result and we haven’t done enough of that this year on the road.

“If we could turn three or four of the draws into wins, we’d be in a much better position. We were happy with the performance and there’s obviously a couple of players who have come in and haven’t played as much this year.”

The former Longford Town assistant boss also noted his pleasure with how his side have reacted in recent weeks following the defeat away to Cabinteely.

“I remember speaking then and we were devastated that night. We looked like the only team that were going to win it but obviously that didn’t happen.

“Cabinteely got their goal and we were devastated that night. You’re right, we’ve gone six games unbeaten since then along with an excellent performance against St Pats.

“The clean sheet was really pleasing tonight because we haven’t had enough of them. But listen, I did say that in the dressing room.

“We’ve been on a good run and if we’ve had a bit of luck with teams getting results for us, we’d be in a better position.

“It’s out of our hands now but we have two massive games left against Longford and Drogheda that will have a massive say on where the title goes.”
