Striker Dan Carr joins Shamrock Rovers' Europa League conquerors Apollon Limassol

Apollon Limassol have announced the signing of striker Dan Carr from Shamrock Rovers on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The English-born goalscorer played in both legs of the Europa League second qualifying round tie between the sides and did sufficiently well to pique the interest of the Cypriot side.

Former Reading trainee Carr played 52 games for Rovers over a year-and-a-half, 40 of them starts, and scored 13 goals.

Carr had spells in England with Dulwich Hamlet, Huddersfield Town and Cambridge United and had a stint in Sweden with Karlstad before joining Rovers ahead of the 2018 season.

He scored his first goal for the club in a 6-0 win over Bray Wanderers in February 2018, the first of ten league goals in his first season in Tallaght.

Tbe 25-year-old was absent from the Hoops squad that beat Derry City 2-0 on Friday as he was in Limassol completing a medical.

The Cypriot side face PSV Eindhoven in the first league of their Europa League play-off on Thursday, and Carr will be eligible for the group stages should they progress.

"We didn't have to move Dan. He had a year and a half left on his contract,” manager Stephen Bradled told RTÉ.

“We got a sounding from Dan's side and we didn't like what we heard so it was time for Dan to move.

"We're speaking to one or two (replacements) at the moment and hopefully we can get them over the line."
