Parrott, Sadlier and Collins receive first senior call-ups to squad to face Switzerland and Bulgaria

Troy Parrott, Kieran Sadlier and Nathan Collins have been handed their first senior international call-ups as Mick McCarthy named a 40-man provisional side to face Switzerland next month.

The Republic of Ireland host the Swiss in a crucial Euro 2020 qualifier at the Aviva Stadium on September 5th before facing Bulgaria in a friendly at the same venue five days later.

Tottenham Hotspur’s 17-year-old striker Parrott has been rewarded for his fine form in pre-season, which saw him line out in friendlies against Juventus and Real Madrid.

Former Cork City and Sligo Rovers playmaker Sadlier has started the season in blistering form for Doncaster Rovers, scoring in each of his two league games thusfar.

18-year-old Collins, who, like Parrott, was withheld from Tom Mohan’s under-18 European Championships squad by his club, started Stoke's club’s first league game.

The defender, the son of former under-21 international Dave and brother of UCD's Josh, became Stoke's youngest-ever captain in their league cup win over Wigan Athletic on Tuesday night.

James McCarthy has been recalled for the first time since his namesake resumed the job, while Shamrock Rovers’ Jack Byrne is the sole SSE Airtricity League representative.

"I dont know what's going to happen between now and the next couple of games,” McCarthy said by way of explanation of the monster squad.

“We've got Saturday games, Tuesday games, Saturday and then the Saturday before me meet up. Players could get injured before we meet up.

"Switzerland are a good side. They have been in the higher echelons of the top teams in Europe for the last number of years."
