League Preview: Wexford -v- Bray Wanderers

WEXFORD

Basement battlers Wexford welcome playoff hunting Bray Wanderers to Ferrycarrig Park on Friday evening, looking for their first win in twelve (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

The Slaneysiders fell to defeat last time out against Shelbourne but they will be buoyed from their spirited second half display at Tolka Park.

Shels took a deserved three-goal lead before the break at the Richmond Road venue before Danny Furlong reduced the arrears to just one before the hour mark with two tap-ins.

However, the introduction of Denzil Fernandes saw the game turn on its head as the former Cobh Ramblers winger set up two in the final half-hour to see the Reds ease home.

Despite the heavy looking defeat on the score-line, manager Brian O’Sullivan will be pleased with how his side reacted following the half-time break.

Wexford, yet to win away from home, know that should they secure a victory against the Seagulls, they could potentially move ahead of Athlone Town in the league table.

Chris Kenny is Wexford’s only confirmed absentee ahead of the visit of Bray Wanderers to the South-East.

BRAY WANDERERS

Hoping to secure back-to-back league wins for the first time since May, Bray Wanderers travel south looking to extend their three game unbeaten run.

The Seagulls have seen off the likes of Limerick and Athlone Town in recent weeks before drawing away to Galway United at Éamonn Deacy Park.

Dean Williams was on target last time out for Gary Cronin’s side who eased past Athlone Town at the Carlisle Grounds, scoring a hat-trick against his former employers.

Williams, a recent loan signing from Shamrock Rovers, joined the club following the completion of his loan at Athlone.

Dylan McGlade is the Seagulls top scorer with 7 goals to his name so far this season. Derek Daly is their second top scorer with four.

Dylan Barnett is the Seagulls only injury doubt as Hugh Douglas returns from suspension having missed out on last week’s win over Athlone.

Referee: Anthony Buttimer.

MATCH STATS

Wexford won the last game between the sides at Ferrycarrig Park, as the Seagulls succumbed to a sobering two-nil defeat to the First Division’s bottom side.

The Seagulls have a very poor record away from this season with only three wins on their travels throughout.

Gary Cronin’s side have only scored 12 goals away from home so far this season, with eight of those coming on two away excursions.
