Galway United confirm six contact extensions along with landmark sponsorship deal

Galway United have confirmed the extension of six player contracts ahead of the 2020 League of Ireland season.

Siblings Kevin and Christopher Horgan, Colin Kelly, Maurice Nugent, Ivan Gamarra and Dara Costelloe have all signed new deals with the Tribesmen which will see them remain at the club for next season.

Manager Alan Murphy is continuing his emphasis on youth with Christopher Horgan, Kelly and Costelloe all still teenagers, while Kevin Horgan, Gamarra and Nugent are all under the age of 25.

The announcement was made as the club also confirmed their relationship with their main sponsors the Comer Group.

This is set to continue for another two years, with the company having been involved with the club’s return to the League of Ireland in 2014.

It was also announced that the Comer brothers have also set aside a 40 acre site in Athenry, Co. Galway.

This is set to be developed as a football centre of excellence for the progression of players from Galway and the surrounding areas.

“It’s encouraging to hear the progress with Galway United and their development plans for a Centre of excellence in Athenry, Co. Galway,” FAI General Manager Noel Mooney said.

“The FAI Facility Development Department will work alongside Galway United and other stakeholders such as the local authorities to develop a feasibility study on how this proposal can come to fruition.

“The benefits of a footballing Centre of Excellence in Co. Galway will provide a massive boost to the club and wider community and we look forward to it developing,” Mooney concluded.
