Watch: Troy Parrott shot leads to Spurs' opener against Juventus before Harry Kane wonder-strike wins it

Troy Parrott made up for the disappointment of being blocked from going to the under-19 Euros in Armenia by making his senior debut up front in Tottenham Hotspur’s friendly with Juventus.

The 17-year-old Dubliner was a surprising inclusion in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting line-up for the International Champions Cup tie in Singapore but he took the promotion in his stride.

Tom Mohan had hoped to have Parrott lead his attack in Armenia as the top-ranked side but, as it’s outside the international window, Spurs pulled rank to keep him involved in their pre-season.

Faced with a Juve side including Ronaldo, Leonardo Bonucci and World Cup winner Gianluigi Buffon, the Buckingham Street teenager played a key role in the opening goal.

Former Belvedere youth Parrott peeled off to take Son Heung-min’s pass in stride and force a low save from Buffon, and Erik Lamela was on hand to tap home the loose ball.

Parrott was withdrawn for Harry Kane at the break and Spurs soon found themselves 2-1 behind to quickfire goals from Gonzalo Higuaín and Ronaldo.

Lucas Moura levelled things up with 25 minutes remaining before a wonder-strike from Harry Kane, just inside the Juventus half, earned the win for the Champions League finalists.
