League Preview: Wexford -v- Galway United

WEXFORD

Searching for their first win since April, Wexford welcome fellow strugglers Galway United to Ferrycarrig Park on Friday evening (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

The Slaneysiders fell to defeat in their most recent outing against Athlone on a bitterly disappointing night thanks to a 3-1 defeat versus Terry Butler’s side.

Speaking ahead of the game with his club’s media team, Wexford boss Brian O’Sullivan admits his side must win on Friday evening.

“We have to win tonight to stay in touch with the teams around us so we're treating it as our cup final.

“We want to go out tonight and play with determination, desire and hunger.

“In Athlone we were missing a few key players and on top of that we gave away avoidable goals that really killed us and simply weren't good enough on the night. So tonight, we want to put that right."

Wexford will be without the services of the injured duo of Andy Mulligan and Chris Kenny with Danny Furlong and Emmet Nugent both returning to the fold after missing out last week.

In a further boost, O’Sullivan will be able to call upon new signings Darryl Walsh, Stephen Lawless and Conor English.

GALWAY UNITED

After being clinically swept aside by Shelbourne last time out, Galway United will be looking to get back to winning ways when they make the trip to face Wexford at Ferrycarrig Park.

Speaking ahead of the game with his club’s media team, United boss Alan Murphy admits he will be hoping to not concede any sloppy goals at the South-East venue.

“We gave away some very sloppy goals against Shelbourne last week and we’ll be looking to rectify that against Wexford,” Murphy said.

“The result last week was hugely down to us having a team of inexperienced players.

“Looking ahead to Wexford, they have lost Jack Doherty, but they’ve also signed a number of players that will bolster their squad.

“As of yet, we haven’t been able to really add to our squad in the window. We’ll be travelling down to Wexford cautiously, not looking too much into the fact that we’ve already had two good results against them this season.

“We’ll be looking after ourselves and looking to give a performance.”

Jack Lynch, Conor Barry and Joshua Keane-Quinlivan are ruled out through injury while Maurice Nugent is unavailable du to his involvement with the Irish Colleges and Universities team.

In addition, Shane Doherty has left the club due to family reasons.

Referee: Kevin O’Sullivan.

MATCH STATS
