Sean Callan returns to Shamrock Rovers as Wexford loan expires

Defender Sean Callan has returned to parent club Shamrock Rovers after his loan at Wexford came to an end.

Callan joined Wexford at the end of February on loan and made made 15 appearances during his time at Ferrycarrig Park.

His final appearance for Brian O'Sullivan's side came in Friday's 2-0 defeat to Cabinteely, in which Callan was shown a straight red card.

“Sean Callan has been recalled to Shamrock Rovers,” Wexford announced on social media on Monday morning.

“Sean joined Wexford on loan from the Hoops in February making 15 [appearances] for us and was one of the standout performers at Ferrycarrig this season.

“We'd like to thank Sean and wish him all the best in the future.”

Callan joined Rovers’ under-19s in the summer of 2015 and was presented with his first professional contract at the end of the 2018 season.

Following the departure of defender Sam Bone on loan to Waterford for the remainder of the season, Callan may be handed an opportunity to stake a claim for a place in the Rovers squad.
