Conor Davis departs struggling UCD to join Derry City

Derry City have confirmed the capture of highly coveted UCD forward Conor Davis on an eighteen-month deal.

The former Reading striker joins the Candystripes having played his last game for the Students on Friday evening.

The 21-year-old joined the Belfield based outfit following the departure of Georgie Kelly to Dundalk last summer before helping Collie O’Neill’s side on their way to the First Division title.

Davis’ equaliser at home to Finn Harps on the penultimate night of the season was enough to secure UCD’s passage back to the top-flight after being fed in by the recently departed Daire O’Connor.

Speaking to Derry City’s media team following news of his move to Derry, Davis revealed his delight upon securing his move to the club.

“I’m very excited to join the club. One thing I have to say is that I need to thank UCD for everything they have done for me.

“There’s too many people to thank but mainly Collie O’Neill and Ian Ryan for giving me the opportunity to play when I came home from England last summer.

“It’s a challenge I’m looking forward to. The push for Europe is on now so hopefully we can get as many points as we can until the end of the season, and we’ll see what happens.”

Manager Declan Devine added; “We’ve been after Conor for a long time. I’ve been watching him since the Dundalk v UCD FAI Cup semi-final.

“He’s a player that will bring another dimension to the way we play, and he’ll fit into the way we want to play.

“He’s here on an eighteen-month deal so we’re not taking a risk on him. He’ll be here for over a year and he’s someone people at this football club will really enjoy watching.”
