Keith Dalton: 'We just need to keep doing what we're doing'

Andrew Dempsey reports from Stradbrook Road

Cabinteely winger Keith Dalton stressed the importance of Cabinteely continuing their positive momentum following their comfortable two-goal win over Wexford at Stradbrook Road on Friday evening.

Yuta Sasaki grabbed all the headlines with his first League of Ireland goal after Luke Clucas fired Cabo ahead early on in the second period.

Speaking after the game to extratime.ie, Dalton was pleased with how the Green and Whites overcame their Wexford counterparts, their first home win over the Slaneysiders since March 2017.

“I thought the lads played very well from start to finish. We were creating a bit in the first half but weren’t able to score and after Luke’s goal we were allowed to kick on from there.

“Wexford are always our bogey team at home when we’ve played them here, so it was good to get the two-nil win.

“Hopefully we can stay in the Playoffs and keep winning games, there’s only nine games left so we just need to keep doing what we’re doing.”

Following Sasaki’s fairy-tale League of Ireland debut, the former Dundalk underage star added the importance of the ranks being bolstered ahead of the final round of games.

“New faces are a big thing at this time of the year,” the 22-year-old said.

“It adds to the competition and it’s good to have a player like Yuta in the squad. There’s a few more coming in as well so it’s good in that sense.”

Next up for Cabinteely is a home fixture against Bray Wanderers, where the former Bohemians defender expects an entertaining contest against Pat Devlin’s side.

“It’s going to be a tough game, but I think we owe them one from last time. It was the first night of the season back then so next Friday against Bray should be a good game.”
