Ismahil Akinade departs Waterford by mutual agreement

Premier Division Waterford FC have confirmed that striker Ismahil Akinade has left the club following an 18-month spell at the RSC by ‘mutual agreement’.

The former Bray Wanderers and Bohemians striker scored eight league goals for Alan Reynolds’ side in 46 appearances.

The 25-year-old target man’s contract with the South East outfit was due to last until the end of the 2019 campaign having signed along with midfielder Bastien Hery in 2018.

Manager Alan Reynolds told his club’s media team; “The club would like to wish Izzy all the best. We signed him after gaining promotion two seasons ago and he scored some important goals for the club.

“We thank him for the hard work and efforts over the past 18 months. He’ll be missed on and off the pitch and was a really popular member of the squad.”

The Nigerian born striker departs the Blues who have also lost fellow striker Aaron Drinan in recent days.

The Blues next game is at home to Bohemians on Friday evening with a kick-off time of 7.45pm at the RSC.

Waterford currently lie 8th in the Premier Division, with three games in hand over Cork City in 7th who are just a point clear of their Munster rivals.
