Jamaica's Nicola McClure keeps clean sheet for Sion Swifts - 24 hours after World Cup bow with Jamaica

Jamaican goalkeeper Nicola McClure kept a clean sheet for Sion Swifts in the NIFL Women’s Premier League just 24 hours after making her World Cup debut against Australia.

McClure was back between the sticks for the Tyrone club’s 4-0 win over Crusaders Strikers on Wednesday night after the Reggae Girlz group campaign came to an end the day before.

The league’s top scorer Lauren Brennan scored a hat-trick in a win that leaves Swifts third in the Premiership, two points behind leaders Glentoran and Linfield, with eight games played.

After sitting on the bench for defeats to Brazil and Italy, McClure was handed her first World Cup cap for the final group game against the Matildas, with qualification still a slim possibility.

Sam Kerr had other ideas and the Chicago Red Stars star scored four as Australia cruised into the last 16 as runners-up following a 4-1 win that saw Jamaica score their first-ever World Cup goal.

McClure, the first player from the NIFL ever to appear at the finals, was at fault for the fourth goal as she mishit her clearance from a backpass and presented Kerr with a simple finish.

New York-born McClure played for Auburndale SC and East Meadow Shooting Stars in the US regional leagues before joining Swifts at the beginning of this year.
