Stephen Henderson resigns as Cobh boss

Cobh Ramblers have announced the immediate resignation of first team manager Stephen Henderson.

The club announced the manager’s departure shortly after Ramblers dispatched Galway United 2-1 at St Colman’s Park in the First Division.

An interim first team manager will be announced in the coming days, according to a statement from the club, with a permanent appointment to come in due course.

The former League of Ireland goalkeeper first took over as manager at Cobh in 2004 and he saw great success winning the First Division in 2007.

He ended his tenure at the club the following season after suffering relegation and took up the manager post at Waterford United until 2011.

Henderson returned to Ramblers in 2015 and his side made it to the First Division promotion playoffs in 2016 when they finished third, losing out to Drogheda 3-2 over two legs.

The following season Ramblers finished second behind Waterford but with the re-structuring of the league there was no relegation/promotion playoff and no opportunity for Henderson’s side to move up to the Premier Division.

In 2018 the Cork side finished 8th and after 17 games in 2019 the club currently find themselves in 7th place on 19 points.
