Wexford's Owen McCormack to take break from football

Wexford FC’s defender Owen McCormack has announced that he will be taking a break from football.

The 21-year-old Co. Kilkenny native has confirmed he will be stepping away from the game at this time due to personal reasons.

McCormack, a product of the St. Kevin’s Boys’ underage system, has made 57 league appearances in four seasons for the Ferrycarrig Park men, which constitutes the club’s all-time appearance record.

Having joined Waterford Under 19s from St. Kevin’s in 2015, McCormack switched to Wexford in 2016 and made his league debut at Turner’s Cross against Cork City in October 2016.

McCormack, who has also made played four League Cup matches for the Youths, scored his only goal for Wexford in the 2-1 defeat at Drogheda United earlier this season.

McCormack’s club, who currently languish at the foot of SSE Airtricity League First Division commented on the news as follows, “We wish him all the very best and offer huge thanks for all of his efforts for Wexford FC & Wexford Youths! Good luck Owen!”
