Supporters' co-op to take over Wexford

First Division Wexford have announced that the Wexford Supporters Trust (WST) will soon take full ownership of the club.

The WST are a supporters-run co-operative that will be in control of the club, akin to Cork City who have reaped the rewards of the setup in recent years.

In the statement released by the club, the WST have announced that membership of the club is open to everyone, with all members having an equal say on the clubs matters.

The Supporters Trust will have democratically elected members based on a 'one person one vote' model for the decision-making process of being chosen to the governing body of the club.

As per the statement on the club's website, membership costs will be €20 for ten months of the year.

The aim of the move is to attempt to allow fans feel valued within the club through its involvement in community life within both County Wexford and the surrounding areas in the south-east of the country.

The move is in a direct response to the difficulties that arose following the uncertainty regarding ownership and control of the club in the early parts of this year.

Very encouraged by its previous successes in the League of Ireland before, Wexford believe this is a very sustainable way forward in establishing a well-run football club.

Membership forms being available at their home ground Ferrycarrig Park and website www.wexfordfc.ie soon. It is hoped that it will be in operation by November of this year.

There is a public launch event on Wednesday the 13th of September due to take place in Clayton White's Hotel, Wexford regarding the new venture at the south-east club
