Shelbourne re-sign American striker Gloria Douglas until the end of the season

Shelbourne have announced the re-signing of American striker Gloria Douglas until the end of the season.

Douglas previously joined the club during the 2016 season with the Red Pandas, helping Mark Leavy's side complete a historic league, cup and league cup treble.

The 25-year-old is a graduate of the University of Virginia, for whom she appeared in 96 games over four years, the joint-most for any player in the college's history.

She then spent time in Norway with Roa Dynamite Girls and Japan with Iga Konoichi before signing for Shelbourne in 2016.

She scored one goal and set up another for Leanne Kiernan as Shels ran out 5-0 winners over Wexford Youths in the FAI Cup final in November.

Douglas returned to America and spent some time with the Washington Spirit before returning to Dublin to bolster the Shels squad ahead of their Champions League campaign later this month.

“To add a player of her calibre is great, not just coming into the Champions League but for the rest of the league campaign,” Leavy told the club's media team.

“Gloria proved last year to be a tricky player for opponents with her fast feet and contributions to the game.

“[I have] no doubt Gloria will be a success again this year.”
