Dundalk win RTE Sport Team of the Year

Dundalk FC have scooped the coveted RTE Sport Team of the Year for 2015 beating 12 other teams who were in contention for the Award.

Stephen Kenny's team completed back to back title wins for the first time in the club's history, as well as winning the Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup and the Leinster Senior Cup this season. They only lost two games in regulation time during the campaign (a 2-1 home reverse to Bohemians and a 2-1 defeat away to BATE Borisov) and set a new record of goals scored in the Premier Division. They dominated the PFAI Awards held recently and have become the first soccer team to win this award, which was as a result of a public vote.

Members of the team who were present on the night included new PFAI Chairperson, Gary Rogers, the recently re-signed Sean Gannon, fitness and conditioning coach Graham Byrne and 29 goal midfielder Richie Towell who has signed for Brighton and Hove Albion as well as key players Dane Massey, Chris Shields and Andy Boyle.

Stephen Kenny, who was also nominated for Manager of the Year, accompanied his players, and his assistant manager Vinny Perth, to the event which was held in Dublin on Friday night.

Other award winners on the night included World Champion boxer Michael Conlan (Sports Person of the Year), Northern Ireland soccer team boss Michael O Neill (Sports Manager of the Year) and Henry Shefflin (Hall of Fame).
