Cherrie Swaps Southern Champions for Northern Kingpins

Peter Cherrie has joined the list of players migrating north as the Scottish goalkeeper has left Dundalk to hook up with Irish League champions Cliftonville.

The 31 year-old spent six seasons with Dundalk signing for Sean Connor in July 2009. He remained a first team regular under five different managers during his stay in Oriel Park.

In his first full season Cherrie won the Dundalk FC Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards for 2010. The highlight of his time in Louth was in 2014 when he helped the Lilywhites win the Airtricity League and League Cup, keeping 21 clean sheets along the way.

Cliftonville already possess one of the league’s most promising young keepers in former Manchester United reserve Conor Devlin but the arrival of Cherrie will ensure competition is fierce for the number one jersey at Solitude.

He will join former team mate Tiarnan Mulvenna who signed for the north Belfast side during the summer. That will take Tommy Breslin's sides’ complement of players with League of Ireland experience to five as former Derry City striker David McDaid, Finn Harps forward Sean McCarron and ex-Shamrock Rovers midfielder Robert Bayly are already among their ranks.
