Healy on board for 2015 sesaon

Hot on the heels of the announcement of Dan Murray’s new contract a few hours ago, Cork City have this afternoon revealed that midfielder Colin Healy has also committed to the club for 2015.

The former Celtic and Sunderland midfielder had arguably his best ever season in a Cork City jersey this year, resulting in his nomination for PFAI player of the year as well as a place on the PFAI team of the year. Driving the team from the middle of the field, the Republic of Ireland international also chipped in with some goals, none more memorable than his late late bicycle kick to give the Rebel Army a much needed victory over St Patrick’s Athletic in August.

Speaking to CorkCityFC.ie, the 34 year old was hopeful in his outlook for next season.

“It was a better season than we have had in recent years. We were a bit disappointed with how it finished, but overall it was a good season. There is a good group at the club, and I hope it will be a good year next year.

“European football is something we are looking forward to as a team, for the fans and the club. Hopefully 2015 will be a good year and a good experience for the young lads, and the club as a whole.”

Healy’s goal for the league is also clear: “To win the league!”

Also speaking to CorkCityFC.ie, manager John Caulfield was full of praise for his midfield maestro.

“Colin knows where we are trying to get to in 2015; to make sure that we are back up there again and driving on. It is important for us to keep all of our best players, and I think Colin probably had his best season in a Cork City jersey last season. We are looking forward to next year and to Colin being at the top of his game, and driving the team forward again.

Colin knows himself that he probably doesn’t have too many seasons left, and wouldn’t it be fantastic for him if he could end up with winner’s medals with his local club. I am certainly looking forward to Colin being as good as he was this year, and I have no doubt he will be.”
