Dave’s Biography
Dave played youths football with Kilkenny side Evergreen and started his League of Ireland career with his home town club Kilkenny City in the 1999/00 season. He made 8 appearances in his debut year and stayed at Kilkenny for four years, making 96 league appearances.
At the start of the transitional 2003 season Dave signed for Waterford United where he played for three seasons before signing for St Patrick's Athletic at the start of 2006. He scored for St Pats in their 4-3 FAI Cup final defeat to Derry City in 2006 and scored four times in his 39 league appearances during his year and a half at Richmond Park.
In July 2007 Dave was placed on the transfer list and he was soon on his way back to Waterford where he made 11 league appearances over the remainder of the season. In January 2008 Dave signed for Cork City in what would prove to be a troubled few months.
He made just 2 league appearances for Cork and, after a bust up with manager Alan Mathews, his contract was terminated in August 2008. In 2009 he signed for Eddie Gormley at Bray Wanderers where he made 30 league appearances as Bray finished bottom of the Premier Division.
In 2010 he returned for a second spell at St Patrick's Athletic where he made 57 league appearances over the 2010 and 2011 seasons, scoring seven league goals along the way.
In February 2012 Dave signed for Aaron Callaghan at Bohemians and his Bohs debut came in a 2-0 defeat to Shelbourne at Dalymount Park on 9 March. Dave went on to make 23 league appearances in 2012. In 2013 Dave played 24 games for Bohemians in the league and was made captain during the latter part of the season after teammate Owen Heary took over from Aaron Callaghan as manager. Dave also scored four goals, including an important winner against Shamrock Rovers in a 1-0 win in Dalymount.
The 2014 season was regularly interrupted by injuries but Dave still made 17 appearances in the league as Bohs secured seventh place in the table. In November 2014 Dave left Bohemians and re-joined Cork City under John Caulfield but in early February 2015 it became apparent that Dave's work commitments were not going to fit in with the demands of full time football and his contract was amicably rescinded. A week later he re-signed for Bohemians.
Despite his age, Mulcahy still went on to make 23 league appearances for the Gypsies in 2015, scoring once in the 2-1 win over Dundalk. He stayed on at Dalymount Park for the 2016 campaign and made 15 league appearances for Bohs before leaving them for Cork City in July 2016. This time Dave's time at Turner's Cross proved more successful. He made his league bow for the Rebels on 8 August 2016 against Sligo Rovers and made 13 league appearances over the latter half of the season.
In January 2017 Dave was among those who joined the rebranded Waterford FC under new Director of Football, Pat Fenlon. Waterford then announced that Dave had left the club by mutual consent in July 2017 to sign for Drogs.
In January 2018, Dave signed for Shels and played his last League of Ireland season, leaving the club at the end of August. He returned to his home town club, Evergreen FC, where he continued his remarkable career at Junior level.
