Wayne ’s Biography
Wayne is an English-born central defender who was appointed as player/coach of Dundalk by former teammate Ian Foster in January 2010. His professional career began as a part-timer in the Conference with Forest Green Rovers, before a move to League One outfit Oxford United in December 2000. He spent two seasons there before joining Chester City. After signing for League Two side Kidderminster Harriers in October 2003, Hatswell became Harriers captain but they were relegated out of the English Football League in 2005.
In a cost-cutting exercise he was allowed to join Rushden & Diamonds in January 2006 as they looked to bolster their struggling squad, and, although he was unable to avoid a second successive relegation to the Conference, Wayne became a key member of the Diamonds team.
In January 2008, Jimmy Quinn paid to bring him to Cambridge. His form continued into the 2008/09 season as he was part of the most miserly defence in the division, and he also scored four more goals and was deservedly voted ‘Player of the Season’. His time at the Abbey Stadium eventually came to an end in January 2010, when he was snapped up by Dundalk and Foster. He made his league debut for Dundalk when starting the opening-day win at Bray Wanderers on 5 March.
Wayne made 34 league appearances at Dundalk, scoring one goal, the winner against Bohemians at Oriel Park in April. During the winter break wayne decided to return to the English league, signing as player/coach at Newport County.
