Georgia to face Ireland in June

The Football Association of Ireland has announced that the Republic of Ireland will take on Georgia in a Three International Friendly on June 2nd. The match will be preceded by the FAI Junior Cup Final, earlier that afternoon.

The international friendly will kick-off at 5.30pm with the Junior Cup Final taking place at 1.30pm.

The friendly will provide ideal preparation for the Irish team, coming just five days before they take on the Faroe Islands in a 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifier. It will also be their second friendly in a week after they face England in Wembley on May 29th.

Tickets for the senior match can also be used to attend the junior match. They will go on sale on Monday, March 11th and will be priced at €10 for children and €20 for adults.

The FAI Junior Cup Final will mark the 90th anniversary of the formation of the FAI Junior Council. The quarter-final draw will take place on the Monday, March 11th, live on RTÉ’s MNS.

The FAI Junior Cup began in September with 600 clubs entered. That has now been whittled down to just eight, who will battle it out for their place at the Aviva Stadium.

Commenting on the announcement, President of the FAI Junior Council, Paddy McGrath, said: “The June 2 final will be a wonderful day for everyone involved in the Junior game. The clubs which make it to Aviva Stadium will savour the day for a long time to come and we are very grateful to Aviva and Umbro who have helped to make it possible. I would also like to thank the FAI for combining the final with the Three international friendly against Georgia which will enhance the occasion for everyone.”
