Shrewsbury Town have completed the signing of midfielder David McAllister from Sheffield United on a two-and-a-half year deal.

The 24-year-old signed on the dotted line today for an undisclosed fee after impressing during a loan spell with Town.

McAllister left St. Patrick’s Athletic in 2009 to sign for Sheffield United after making 32 appearances for the Saints.

During his time with the Blades the former Shelbourne and Drogheda midfielder made 30 appearances, scoring four goals.

McAllister began his career in the League of Ireland where he originally played for Drogheda United before being loaned to Shelbourne, and eventually moving there permanently.  He was instrumental in Shels’ 2009 First Division campaign. That year The Reds narrowly missed out on promotion and McAllister was named player of the year.

Speaking to The Shropshire Star, Shrews manager Graham Turner said: "Just over a week ago, Sheffield United accepted a bid for David McAllister so obviously we're pleased to have concluded the deal".

He went on to praise the Drogheda man’s work ethic saying: "I'm sure supporters appreciate his enthusiasm for the game, his endeavours on the pitch and they are also infectious. He's a very fit lad so he's got the ingredients of a decent midfield player."

McAllister is Shrewsbury’s third signing of the January transfer window.
